An Interview with Mr. Mathew Knowles

Dear friends,

It is no secret that the Houston Public Library helps people build their personal and professional lives. It’s what Andrew Carnegie envisioned when he funded our first library in 1904!

And in a city like Houston–bursting with talented and brilliant people–it is of little surprise that many of Houston’s most successful individuals have wended their way through one the branches of the Houston Public Library.

Mathew Knowles, famed music producer who launched the careers of his daughters BeyoncĂ© and Solange, as well as Destiny’s Child and numerous Gospel productions, is one of those people.

As a young executive at the Xerox Corporation, Knowles spent nights in the Jesse Jones Central Library becoming a self-taught expert in new areas of science and technology. This personal dedication and the free resources of the Houston Public Library helped him–like countless others–launch his career to the next level.

With best regards,
