It took only 2 minutes before a little girl, perhaps all of 4 years old, gleefully grabbed the first book out of the newest Little Library in the City of Houston! She proceeded to hug it and then show it to everyone who would look. She was so proud of her new book!
Thanks to the generosity of our partners at Phillips 66, the Houston Public Library Foundation has donated 5 Little Libraries to the Houston Health Department’s WIC clinics (The Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children). These Little Libraries will provide free books to Houston’s most economically exposed families–and provide the opportunities to grow, explore, discover, and learn that come along with each new page.
Through this collaboration, Little Libraries have been placed and stocked in the WIC clinics operating in Acres Homes, Casa, Braesner, Magnolia, and Sunnyside. These locations were chosen because they are more than a mile from a public library.
