70+ Years
When the first “Friends of the Houston Public Library” formed in 1953, one of the first things they did was… host a book sale! Over three quarters of a century later, book sales (and other HPL goodies) remain an important part of supporting the work of the Houston Public Library.

First Saturdays
Book sales are currently held the first Saturday of each month and all items sell for between $1-$3.
In addition to books, we sell CDs, DVDs, VHS tapes, cassette tapes, and vinyl records.
Volunteers needed
Volunteers remain a critical part of our success as we all work together to support the Houston Public Library!
Many hands are needed to help sort books, stock shelves, assist customers, facilitate checkout, and many other tasks that ensure book sales and warehouse operations go smoothly.
Volunteers over 18 must be willing to sign a liability waiver. Volunteers between the ages of 14-18 must have a release signed by a parent or guardian. Volunteers under the age of 14 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian while volunteering.
