1904 Society

Get Involved

The Houston Public Library formally came to life on March 2, 1904 when the first Carnegie Library opened at the corner of Travis St. and McKinney St. in downtown Houston. This would not have been possible without the visionary leadership of not only Andrew Carnegie, but the dozens of Houstonians who make significant financial contributions to bring the Houston Public Library into being.

The 1904 Society is a giving society that recognizes those who make an annual contribution in support of the Houston Public Library of $1,000 or more.
Members of the 1904 Society are invited to an annual reception, will be recognized in the annual report, and will receive special invitations to premiere events at the Houston Public Library.
