Happy Bibliomania Day!

Dear friends,

Today, March 20, we excitedly join book lovers everywhere by reveling in Bibliomania Day–an occasion to indulge in our passion for reading and books! On this special day, we celebrate not only the joy of collecting and reading books but also the importance of libraries in nurturing that love.

Originally coined in the 19th century, “bibliomania” refers to an obsession with collecting rare and valuable books. This day highlights how books have shaped our lives and communities and underscores the vital role libraries play in keeping this passion alive.

As a cherished supporter of the Houston Public Library, your contributions help ensure that the love of books continues to thrive within our community. Thanks to your generosity, we can provide access to millions of books, educational programs, and unique resources to inspire readers of all ages.

Specifically, the Houston Public Library houses an extensive collection of rare books that has been growing for nearly a century. From signed copies of a work by Salvador Dali, to 15th century prayer books, and masterful examples of 19th century fore-edge art, HPL’s special collections would make any bibliophile’s day.

It is the privilege and duty of the Houston Public Library to steward these valuable artifacts of our history, and your support makes the conservation of these treasures possible.

On this special day, we invite you to join us in celebrating the written word. Whether you’re rediscovering a beloved classic, exploring new titles, or supporting library initiatives, your involvement strengthens our community’s love for books and the libraries that bring them to life.

Thank you for your continued dedication to the mission of the Houston Public Library. Together, we are building a future where books and learning remain accessible to all–fostering future bibliophiles!

With best regards,
Nick Sawicki
