Contributing to your community

The Houston Public Library Foundation is in constant need of volunteers! A committed corp, known as the Friends of the Houston Public Library, are a key volunteer group that ensures the library system functions smoothly.

Volunteers are needed throughout the system to assist library staff with shelving, programming, community events, workshops, tours, book sales and festivals, and Foundation events.

Friends of the Houston Public Library

Anyone aged fourteen and over, including students, parents, working individuals, and retirees, is encouraged to join our team. Help us deliver quality services to over two million area residents.

Volunteers are needed six days a week, during all hours of operation, including evenings and weekends. We can accommodate most schedules and also offer seasonal volunteering during spring break, summer, or the holiday season.

YES! All volunteers are given a t-shirt, hat and water bottle upon signing up to serve at one of HPL’s locations.
